2026 Evaluations
The Belterra Marlins Swim Team is not a swim lesson program—our goal is to foster a competitive swim environment and develop a love for the sport.
As our team continues to grow, we will conduct evaluations for the 2026 season to ensure all swimmers are ready for team participation.
Who needs an evaluation?
- New swimmers who are 9 and under, who have not previously competed on another swim team or club must complete an evaluation.
- Returning 2025 Marlins do not need an evaluation.
- Evaluation Date: April 14 at 4:00 - 6:30 PM (Belterra Pool - 801 Belterra Drive)
- We are using a reservation system this year that will allow for a more efficient process. SIGN UP HERE!
Evaluation Criteria for Swimmers Ages 9 And Under:
To join the Belterra Marlins, swimmers must demonstrate a basic freestyle stroke and strong water safety skills. Coaches will evaluate based on the following:
- Must perform a basic crawl stroke (“freestyle”).
- Eyes should remain underwater for most of the swim, except when breathing.
- No pulling on the lane line, wall, or pushing off the bottom.
- A brief rest on the wall is acceptable, but swimmers must show confidence moving independently across the pool.
- Must swim the full 25-meter distance without assistance.
- Final decision: Coaches have full discretion in determining readiness
Criteria for Swimmers Ages 10 and Up (no formal evaluation):
Swimmers in this age group must demonstrate a higher level of endurance and water safety.
- Must perform a basic crawl stroke (“freestyle”).
- Eyes must remain underwater for most of the swim, except when breathing.
- No pulling on the lane line, wall, or pushing off the bottom.
- Must swim the entire 25-meter pool length without resting.
- Must demonstrate strong water safety skills, requiring no assistance to reach the other side.
- Time limit: 45 seconds.
These evaluations ensure that all Marlins swimmers are safe, confident, and ready to thrive in a competitive team environment.
